Sometimes the stigma relating to some pest problems can stop people from calling in the specialists. Bedbugs are one of those pests that people can get really embarrassed about, the thing is they just don’t go away.

Attending a fifth floor flat in Walsall, West Midlands for a bedbug issue is nothing out of the ordinary, but once inside this was found to be no ordinary infestation. The poor tenant was so embarrassed about the problem that she’d put off getting the infestation looked at for over 5 years. As a result the infestation had not only taken major hold of the property, the bugs were literally eating her alive.

After suiting up the inspection was undertaken, They were everywhere. The bed mattress, framing, units, sofas, curtains, books, CD’s, light fittings, you name it they were there. to make matters worse the property was cluttered, not hoarder level but nonetheless very untidy.

After contacting a family member it was explained that various items needed to be disposed of, unfortunately the sofa and the bed were first in the list, these could not be salvaged and were in such a poor state of repair they just needed to be gone. going forward most of the flat should really end up in a skip for incineration the infestation is so bad.

You can not just walk away, but you sometimes can not treat either. This was beyond chemical of heat treatments, the latter five stories up would be a challenge in itself. Its impossible to safely or effectively use insecticidal treatments in these situations, while treatment products are very good we have to manage our expectations.

Unfortunately for the client this is not going to be a quick fix. its going to be a process of clearing without contaminating other areas, knockdown treatments as we go, steaming, cleaning and several repeated visits before this property is under control.

Theres no need to be embarrassed, theres no stigma, this is what we do and we’ve pretty much seen it all.

If you think you have brought one of these little blood feeders home from a holiday abroad, a weekend break in a hostel or just visiting a place where many people go like care homes or hospitals get it looked at. A single bedbug can be as good as a infestation and they are not easy to get rid of.

the sooner the issue is identified the easier and lets be honest, the cheaper its going to be… disposing of sofas and bed does not always have to happen.
